SASFAA President Nathan Basford has presented the nine state
presidents with several opportunities to share our ideas and experiences with
each other. Through his leadership and
support, we have bonded as a group and have begun to reach out in an effort to
increase member involvement in SASFAA.
President Basford and the SASFAA Board are giving their
support in what we are calling the SASFAA State President Exchange. The idea is that each president will visit
another state’s conference to encourage members of the state organizations to
get involved with SASFAA.
The state presidents have designed a single presentation
that each could use while presenting at the conference they are visiting. I had the privilege of providing the initial
presentation to the members of NCASFAA at their recent Fall Conference in Asheville, NC. It was an opportunity to
share my path to becoming the current president of the GASFAA, while
encouraging them to stretch themselves a little further with their involvement
in both NCASFAA and SASFAA. With the
feedback of the participants, we are hoping to improve our future presentations,
so be on the lookout for “Growing in the Financial Aid Profession” at your next
conference.
We hope this State President Exchange is beneficial to both
the state and regional associations.
Personally, an added bonus for visiting the NCASFAA Fall Conference was
the wealth of new ideas in just observing how they organized and produced their
own conference. It was both enlightening
and a wonderful experience. Thank you
