Retirement - Dee Talley (AL)



Dear SASFAA Members & Friends:


It is an honor and privilege to be able to announce the retirement for Mrs. Debra (Dee) Talley.  Dee will be retiring after thirty-one (31) years of service at the University of Alabama @ Birmingham on November 26th, 2014.  

Dee has been very active in the financial aid arena serving the great state of Alabama & her Regional Association SASFAA.

Dee has served in the following positions for Alabama: 

  • Alabama State President 2000-2001
  • AASFAA Vice President 1998-99
  • AASFAA Secretary 1994-95
  • AASFAA Program Committee Chair 1999-2000
  • AASFAA Membership Committee Chair 1996-97
  • AASFAA Public Relations Committee Chair 1997-98
  • AASFAA Nominations and Elections Committee Chair 2001-2002
  • AASFAA Long Range Planning Committee Chair 2003-04, 2004-08
  • AASFAA Diversity Committee Chair 2009-2013
  • Received the AASFAA M. Cecil Padgett Outstanding Achievement Award 2001-2002

Dee has also served SASFAA in the following positions:

  • SASFAA New Aid Officers Workshop Faculty Trainer: 1991-1993
  • SASFAA Conference Committee: 1997-98, 98-99, 2004-05, 08-09, 09-2010
  • Secretary: 2002-2004
  • SASFAA Long Planning Committee: 2004-2005
  • SASFAA Diversity Committee Chair: 2004-05, 2008-09, 2009-2010
  • SASFAA Governance & Planning Committee (GAP) 2006-2007
  • Received the SASFAA Distinguished Service Award: 2009-2010

Dee’s commitment and dedication was always apparent as she led by example. Her smile has always said it all!

Dee is married to David Talley III; they have three (3) sons:  David Talley IV, Eddie Talley and Emmanuel Talley.  

Dee, I thank you for your support to SASFAA, your dedication, your commitment, but most of all the caring you have for the students, parents, and the staff you have worked with.  Your leadership and commitment is an example of why I have stayed in this profession.
It is rare that one finds a good friend in a colleague.   Dee, thank you for being that wonderful person who always is willing to extend a helping hand and for being a true friend.

It is with joy and sadness that I wish you the best as you begin a new chapter in your life.  No one more loved or respected has earned this right.  May your days ahead be filled with excitement, adventure, and much love.
