This
week,
the U.S. House convenes for the second session of the 114th
Congress. The chamber is expected to consider H.R. 1155, the Searching for and
Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome Act or the SCRUB Act,
which would create a Retrospective Regulatory Review Commission to review the
Code of Federal Regulations to identify rules that should be repealed to lower
the cost of regulation to the economy. However, it is not expected to consider
any specific student financial aid-related legislation. The U.S. Senate returns
next Monday.

On
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., the House Rules Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget
Process holds a hearing on H.R.1610, the “Biennial Budgeting and
Enhanced Oversight Act of 2015.” Witnesses will be announced at a later date.

On
Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., the Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Markets Committee
(FOMC) releases the minutes of its two-day meeting held December 15-16, 2015.

On
Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., the National Science Foundation holds a meeting via
teleconference of the National Science Board to discuss the Higher Education
Companion brief. In order to gain access to the public listening number, email
a request to nationalsciencebrd@nsf.gov at least 24 hours
prior to the teleconference.
