Greetings, SASFAA, from Mississippi!
We have had a great 2015-2016 year in Mississippi. The Executive Board has been hard at
work. In an attempt to increase
membership, the board made an effort to visit every school in Mississippi. We all had a great time visiting schools and
meeting, potential, new members, as well as the seasoned members. The visits were well received, as well as the
cookies and candy!
We purchased the NASFAA Credentials for the second
year in a row and to date, Mississippi holds 247 NASFAA Credentials! We have two additional opportunities for more
credentials to be earned before the end of June. This has been great to allow for more training
and networking opportunities.
In November, we held Financial Aid 101. Twenty-four
new financial aid administrators across the state gathered to learn, meet, and
have some fun. We had a great group of
individuals, and it makes me excited about the future of our organization!
We are in the planning stages of our annual conference
which will take place in June in Philadelphia, Mississippi. The Conference Committee is working
tirelessly to make sure we have a great conference. Our theme this year is “MASFAA-The Ties that
Bind Us” and there are several key phrases that come to mind when thinking of
what binds us together-student, mentor, network, education, achievement, and
access. Even though we all have
different systems, different processes, and different types of students, we all
have one common goal. The charity we are
supporting is Pages of Love. The
charity, started by Hannah Roberts, Miss Mississippi 2015, and 1st
alternate to Miss America, this organization provides books to children’s
hospitals and doctors’ offices in an effort to offer the individual a
distraction from their illness.
In closing, I hope that you will mark your calendar
for the 2017 SASFAA Annual Conference, “Building a Legacy… One Student at a
Time,” to be held in Biloxi, Mississippi. We are excited to welcome SASFAA back to
Mississippi. And we look forward to you
all enjoying the beautiful, relaxing scenery on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
